Once Upon an Orchestra
As part of their “In Harmony” tour, an effort to bring orchestra musicians to play free concerts in communities all over the state of Kentucky, the Louisville Orchestra reached out to public libraries to offer their Once Upon an Orchestra program while they were in town.
The basis is that the text from favorite children’s books are set to music performed by small ensembles. The Louisville Orchestra does six different stories as part of this program, and the one we were assigned was "Mina" by Matthew Forsythe, with a string duo. So one member of their group would read a page of the story, and the string duo would play music to go along with the story. Here's a sample from our program:
It was absolutely fabulous! I wish we could have all six of the stories.
