Holiday Truck Craft

Paint and assemble a wooden Holiday Truck with six holiday inserts. Finished truck measures about 11" long and 5" tall.

This was our first program done with our Glowforge. I bought the truck svg on Etsy at LuckyHeartDesignCo and narrowed down the holiday inserts to 6 (Valentine's Day, Easter, 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas) so that everything would fit on one piece of plywood. I cut it on Baltic Birch.

Although we did this as an in-person program, we still had to have some sent to other branches and have the option of Take Home kits during the pandemic. So everything was boxed up in a 12" pizza box--even at the in person program, we had the tables set up with tablecloths, paper towels, and cups of water, but we still handed them a pizza box when they arrived.

The truck parts were in a gallon Ziploc bag (maybe not necessary, but I was afraid some paint might some open. I also wanted them to have the option, if there paint wasn't dry before they had to go, they could put it in the bag/box without a big mess). Also included were 9 paint pods (black, white, brown, red, yellow, orange, blue, light green, dark green), 2 paint brushes, and a tube of Super Glue.

We also included these instructions in each kit. Really the only tricky part was assembling the truck, the rest was pretty self explanatory. In hind sight, I wish I had learned about 3M adhesive sheets earlier and cut out the top layer of the holiday inserts on that, eliminating the need for most of the Super Glue. Some of the narrow parts got messy.

This was a very popular program! I did 45 kits but could've easily done another dozen for people who missed the program but still wanted a kit. We will probably offer it again in the future.
