Story Time: Frogs

story time frogs

We read The Wide-Mouthed Frog by Keith Faulkner and Jonathan Lambert (a pop up book, and a favorite!) and One Frog Sang by Shirley Parenteau and Cynthia Jabar (has both repetition and counting elements). We also read Where Are You Little Frog? by Kayleigh Rhatigan and Ali Karzoumanian, though I think next time we'll do Ethan Long's The Croaky Pokey instead.

Our craft was a paper plate frog with a party blower tongue, which was a big hit. The idea came from education.com, though I modified it a bit.

paper plate frog craft materials

Need: + Green paper plate + Red construction paper + Green construction paper + 2 cotton balls + 2 googly eyes + Red party blower Pro Tip: The party blowers at Dollar Tree don't make a sound. + Scissors + Glue Use this Frog Template to cut out the frog feet on green paper, and the mouth on red paper. Also cut two long strips from the green paper for the legs. Fold paper plate in half, green side up. Glue the red mouth piece to the bottom half of the inside. Glue the googly eyes on top of the cotton balls, then glue them to the top of the paper plate. Accordion fold the two green strips and glue a foot to one end and glue the other end to the bottom of the plate. Snip a small opening in the center of the plate's crease and insert the party blower.
