Story Time: St. Patrick's Day

This year I added Hooray for St. Patrick's Day by Joan Holub & illustrated by Paul Meisel (a lift the flap book, where you can find the leprechaun on every page. Great for story time, I just wish it was a little larger) to last year's line up of How to Catch a Leprechaun by Adam Wallace & Andy Elkerton and The Luckiest St. Patrick's Day Ever by Teddy Slater & Ethan Long.

Our leprechaun craft was a kit from Oriental Trading, but could be redone easily enough. The beard is tissue paper squares scrunched up, the rest is all adhesive foam.

For the treats, I purchased some tiny plastic cauldrons (also from Oriental Trading) and some sparkly green shamrock glasses (from Hobby Lobby clearance last year--40 cents for a dozen!). Last year I did treat bags and sparkly green miniature top hats and made Lucky Charms rainbow candy.

I stuffed the bottom of the cauldrons with tissue paper and filled them with gold chocolate coins and Rolos.

Usually I don't set out the candy beforehand on the tables like I do the crafts, because I don't want the kids to start eating it and get extra crazy for the story. But I took a chance and did it today, just because I thought they looked so fun sitting there. It actually was not a disaster.
