American Girl Hats for the Kentucky Derby

Sometime in April, my American Girl love met my Kentucky love and this hat decorating activity was born.

I found the hats for $1.29 a piece at Dollspart Supply. We ordered a certain number and had a registration for the event.

For embellishments, there were flowers, beads, rhinestones, buttons, pompoms, ribbon, and sequins.

They were distributed around the tables with hot glue guns (parents were warned beforehand that they would be supervising/assisting with hot glue gun use).

From there, the girls could go crazy. I also had American Girl and derby books on display in the room. Here are a couple of examples from our patrons:
